Kids Against Hunger Philadelphia

Every six seconds a child dies of hunger related causes. That's 16,000 children that die every single day simply because the don't have enough to eat. There is absolutely no excuse for anyone to go hungry in this world. Yet it happens - every single day and in every single community. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, unemployment and food insecurity has soared. In 2021, 53 million people turned to food banks and community programs for help putting food on the table and that number continues to rise. It is our mission to help keep those shelves full so that no one has to worry about where their next meal is coming from. Hunger affects people from all walks of life, and their are millions of people in America that are just one job loss, missed paycheck, or medical emergency away from hunger and we want to be there to help when they need it! 

Two years ago at one of our packing events I met a young man who came up to me with tears in his eyes and thanked me and said "I am alive today because of your food"! He grew up in Haiti and it was our food that kept him and his community alive. He said it gave them great joy and hope to know that someone, somewhere cared enough about them to ensure that they had food to eat. This is just one of the many reasons why we do what we do. Throughout the years I have met so many people with similar stories. For the past two years we ran a very successful backpack program and when we were asked to increase the amount of meals we were packing without any hesitation I said YES! I didn't know how we would do it but I knew I wouldn't be able to sleep at night if I didn't at least try. We are currently raising funds to launch another backpack program in the new year. We have already selected our schools but need to ensure that we have all the necessary funds to be able to sustain the program throughout the school year.

Similarly, when the war in Ukraine began I felt helpless and immediately started raising money so that we could pack meals to send to them. We partnered with another organization to take care of shipping costs so we only had to focus on the cost of the food and getting the meals packed. Just recently all of our meals were shipped from our warehouse and ended up in Poland for the refugees fleeing Ukraine. Kids Against Hunger Philadelphia is a 501c3 non-profit humanitarian organization with a mission to ensure that no one goes to bed hungry. We provide fully nutritious food to impoverished children, individuals and families around the world and around the corner. Our goal is for our meals to provide a stable nutritional base from which recipients can move from food insecurity to self-sufficiency. We are a volunteer driven organization and have packed and distributed close to 10 million meals in just 7 years. While the majority of our meals have all stayed local we are always ready, willing, and able to step up to help with disaster relief as well as partnering with churches and organizations to send meals to orphanages and schools around the world. We couldn't do all that we do without the help of our thousands of volunteers and donors such as yourselves. Thank you! Together we are feeding families around the world and around the corner!
