Any child old enough to love is old enough to grieve. In the midst of their own grieving, parents may not realize how their children are feeling. They may hide their grief because they blame themselves, are afraid, or are hiding anger. Recovering from a loss takes time and it has been shown that community is essential to help children get back their lives. Because Kids Grieve has day camps and after school events that bring grieving children and their mentors together. We also hold an weekend camp experience in the beautiful mountains of Idaho. Every child has a "buddy". They become involved with each other and realize that they aren't the only ones who are hurting. Kids that would communicate or participate in group sessions end up as part of the group, smiling and opening up. What happens affects their lives for the good in contrast to the undesirable lasting effects of ignoring the grief crisis.
