Kids Court & Counseling Center

Kids Court & Counseling Center at www.kc-cc.org is a non-profit that helps children who testify and appear in criminal, family and juvenile dependency court as either victims or witnesses. KC&CC is a non-profit 501c3 located in Riverside County at 6840 Indiana Ave, Suite 275, Riverside, CA 92506.

KC&CC offers free anxiety reduction and courtroom prep for children as studies show that they have heart rates up to 240 beats per minute when testifying in an empty courtroom. Children deserve to be empowered instead of re-victimized. Children are often confused by the courtroom setting and it is overwhelming. They often believe that the entire case rests on their shoulders. This belief is incredibly damaging as they go through life if they feel unheard, or they are angry with themselves for not doing " a good job."

KC&CC has a board of directors comprised of law enforcement, a judge, an attorney and social workers with experience as Child Protective Services Workers. We are very aware of the need for this program after many of us have stood in hallways with children whose knees are shaking full of fear and anxiety before even entering the courtroom. Foster children attend court more than any other group of children, often "testifying" from the bench. Children deserve to be prepared so they can be less fearful and understand what each person's role in the courtroom is. 

KC&CC teaches children that telling the truth is the most important thing, the deputy is there to keep everyone safe,  the judge is the referee and the attorneys ask questions. Kids Court teaches children that it is okay to say that they do not understand the question, or to not know an answer instead of giving  a forced or implied "yes or no" as an answer. The most important thing they are taught is that telling the truth is what matters most. Children are taught deep breathing techniques and other coping mechanisms that help reduce their anxiety and trauma. These techniques can be used as they conquer other anxiety provoking events in there lives.
