Kids to Love is a 501(c) 3 approved Foundation. Incorporated in 2004, our purpose is to meet the needs of foster children. We do this year-round with a variety of
programs and services. Our first hope is to find forever families for foster children and we are working toward this goal by recruiting foster parents. Through a weekly TV segment, our founder and president, Lee Marshall, a former foster and adoptive child herself, has introduced children waiting to be adopted. Out of 225 children featured, 195 of them have found forever families.
The need for foster parents is rapidly increasing because of the methamphetamine epidemic. This drug trend is tempting parents away from their responsibilities, leaving children to fend for themselves. Kids to Love has established the See Meth Stop Meth tip line, which allows the public to anonymously report suspicious drug activity. We pass information reported to us to local law enforcement and district attorneys. If a tip indicates a child is living in a drug infested home, we also alert the Department of Human Resources in the designated county. To date, the See Meth Stop Meth tip line has received more than 1,800 tips; children are reported in more than 800 of those.
Our commitment to Meth Orphans does not end when a tip results in their removal from home. When children are pulled from meth environments, they can’t even keep the clothes on their back. Kids to Love’s Meth Orphan program provides vouchers to social workers so they can buy
clothes, diapers and other necessities for the children. The Meth Orphan program has served dozens of children in 40 counties throughout Alabama.
Kids to Love dedicates two programs to education. Each summer, we provide school supplies to foster children in Alabama and Tennessee. In the spring, we award college scholarships to foster children who apply to the Foundation and meet the regulations set forth by the Kids to Love Board of Directors. To date, more than 200 students have received scholarships.
We recognize that children not only have needs, they also have wants. Our Christmas for the Kids program meets
both. Kids to Love works with social workers to collect Christmas wish lists from foster children, and then we
invite the community to sponsor a wish list or donate individual items. In 2011, Kids to Love filled wish lists for more than 2,000 foster children.
The common thread throughout all of our programs is to show foster children that they are loved. Kids to Love believes a sense of self-worth is essential to their well-being as children and success in society as adults.
