Help Us Harvest Hope for Kitsap County!!

At Kitsap Harvest, we believe that fresh, local food should nourish our community—not go to waste. Our 100% volunteer-run organization rescues surplus produce and other food from backyards, farms, and markets, and deliver it to those who need it most.  In 2025 just under 26,000 pounds of produce grown in Kitsap County was collected!  With the goal of creating a sustainable gleaning program, Kitsap Harvest serves low income senior housing, youth programs, recovery, and homeless shelters.  Awarded Linda Gabriel Human Rights Award for 2025 by Kitsap County Council for Human Rights!

Kitsap Harvest Programs

Gleaning Program

Gleaning means gathering the extra. It starts when a neighbor reaches out to ask for our help with produce that might otherwise be wasted. Once a request is made, we coordinate a team of volunteers to visit the property to harvest and sort the produce right on-site. Instead of letting that bounty go to waste, we distribute the fresh, locally grown food to nearby neighbors in need.

In 2025, our gleaning program grew by 73%, recovering 18,155 pounds of produce. Apples alone accounted for nearly 14,000 pounds rescued, alongside pears, Asian pears, plums, grapes, and other fruits that would otherwise have gone unharvested.

Community Garden Program

We believe in the power of growing together. This program supports shared gardening spaces where volunteers and community members cultivate fresh produce specifically for donation. It’s more than just growing food; it’s a space for education, engagement, and fostering a deeper connection to how we feed our neighbors.

Grow-A-Row Program

We invite every home gardener to be a part of the solution! By dedicating just a portion of your garden to help others, you help us provide fresh variety to local families. Whether you are a master gardener or planting your very first seed, we are here to support you so your homegrown contribution can make a difference in addressing local hunger.

In 2025, our Grow-A-Row program expanded by 58%, increasing to 7,796 pounds, driven by increased participation from farmers, donation stations, and market partners.
