Kitsap Harvest... Feeding families from front yards, food banks, and farms!

Kitsap Harvest increases local, fresh food access and creates education and awareness through broad community interactions, building relationships with other food security networks, and establishing coordination for its volunteer base that makes this work possible.

With the goal of creating a sustainable gleaning program, Kitsap Harvest serves low income senior housing, youth programs, recovery, and homeless shelters.

Impact in Kitsap County for 2023: 

• Over 83,000 pounds of food collected from fruit tree gleaning, neighborhood garden donation stations, local farms, grocery store and food bank rescue
• Served a total of 44 locations - 28 organizations consistently every other week
• Approximately 1500 individuals accessed our donated food
• Distributed nearly 79,800 lbs. - 63% of which was fresh produce (over 60 types of produce)
• Just under 4100 lbs. of food that would otherwise end up in a landfill, went to livestock
• 129 volunteers across three programs, total of 2771 hours over 250 volunteer events with an economic impact of $86,450 to Kitsap County

Aggregation and Distribution Center - We recently signed a 5 year lease with Peninsula Truck Lines, but we still cover internet, pest control, insurance costs

Operating and maintenance costs for our 8 ton refrigerated truck - critical to our pick up and distribution operations, and starting in 2024, our fruit tree gleaning operations!

Program Expansion - Grow-a-row and fruit tree gleaning, as well as new distribution sites
