The mission of Susan G Komen is to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures. The Louisville Affiliate of Susan G. Komen is committed to provide critical funding to our 15 county service area for breast cancer screenings, treatments, and research, while increasing the awareness of good breast health.

Susan G. Komen began in 1982 with the sole mission to end breast cancer forever. The organization began as a promise between two sisters, resulting in the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists. To date Komen has invested $2. billion in breast cancer research and community programs.

The Komen network is made up of 118 Affiliates. The Louisville Affiliate began in 1999 and has invested over $5.3 million in the local community to support education, screenings, and treatments; and nearly $2 million towards breast cancer research. Our significant fundraising events are the annual Komen Louisville Race for the Cure and the Pink Tie Ball. A unique feature of our organization is that 75 percent of the funds raised remain in the local community and 25 percent directly funds breast cancer research.

The Komen Louisville Affiliate’s services area encompasses a 15-county area including Breckinridge, Bullitt, Grayson, Hardin, Jefferson, Larure, Meade, Nelson, Oldham, Shelby, and Spencer counties in Kentucky and Clark, Floyd, Harrison, and Scott counties in Indiana.
