Over two hundred patients pass through the Kootenai Clinic Cancer Services doors EVERY DAY. Kootenai Health social workers consult with each new patient to assess their needs and eligibility for this program based on income.

Many of our patients have health insurance, but no income, as they cannot work during the course of their cancer treatment. These patients diagnosed with cancer are forced to make choices every day forgoing essentials because medical needs create unexpected and unaffordable costs. Cancer patients are provided with much-needed essentials such as nutritional supplements, groceries, emergency prescriptions and gas vouchers to get to and from treatments.

The Kootenai Health Foundation started the CANCER PATIENT SUPPORT FUND in 2006 with a budget of $18,000 and continues to grow each year. Last year the cancer center distributed 3,185 vouchers totaling $40,475 to 232 patients.  The Foundation receives donations from individuals, memorial gifts, and several community fundraisers.

Your gifts help us help our cancer patients when they need it!
