Local drug problems require local solutions; intellectuals solve problems, geniuses prevent them; an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Established in 1995, KACF has been implementing environmental strategies built on research & local data in Kootenai County for the purpose of building healthy children & families. Since 2004, when KACF began administering the Communities That Care Youth Survey, Kootenai County youth have benefitted from significantly decreased alcohol & tobacco use & the associated negative consequences. Marijuana use, on the other hand, has been creeping up much due to national privately funded pro-marijuana efforts to legalize the use of this detrimental drug.

This is where our 140+ member coalition comes in. We are the community. We are collectively able to implement effective prevention strategies to protect our next generations from the damage of risk behaviors such as drug abuse, truancy, other illegal activity.

Our diverse membership from all sectors of our community, representing over 90 different agencies & interests, is positioned to identify & implement effective collaborations thus connecting many of the silohs that make up Kootenai County. This makes for best use of time, effort & resources by avoiding the duplication of services & identifying gaps ... all for the benefit of local children & families.
