Kootznahoo-Fortress of the Bear

Because the state of Alaska has a policy to destroy orphaned bear cubs, we decided that something else needed to happen to make a change  We have to date rescued 13 bears, 5 to zoos and sanctuaries and we house 8 orphaned bears.  We educate students and visitors about bears, their biology, history, mythology and offer a chance to view them in a naturalized setting.  We do this without any government funding and rely entirely on donations.  This project was initially funded by the founders, Les and Evy Kinnear.  Les has spent the last 14 years revitalizing an abandoned pulp mill and reclaiming it as an exquisite bear habitat.  Built by hand with the aid of a 1983 tractor..we now need some serious help.  The tractor has died and a good used tractor runs about $10,000 dollars...
