Come and visit KSC any Saturday or Sunday afternoon and see how every dollar you donate is used for the welfare of our cats. KSC is all-volunteer run with no paid staff and funded solely by private donations. We are Alexandria’s only free-roaming, no-kill cat rescue facility. In 2016, we saved a life a day, rescuing a record 365 cats and kittens!

15 Years and still purring…

KSC celebrates 14 years in operation in 2018. With the support of the local community and an amazing group of volunteers, from humble beginnings in a room above a store in Old Town, we have evolved into a fully state-licensed and inspected animal rescue facility. Our work has been featured on NBC News 4, ABC7, Channel 9 and in the Washington Post, Huffington Post, Alexandria Gazette Alexandria Times, Old Town Crier, and as far afield as the Virgin Islands Daily News. In 2017, we won a Top-Rated Nonprofit Award from Great Nonprofits for the sixth year running.

Who Else Will Save Them?

We specialize in providing a safe haven for cats that traditional shelters and rescues often cannot: senior cats and cats with special veterinary or behavioral needs as well as pregnant cats, nursing cats, and newborn kittens. If we have room, no cat is turned away.  

Special needs kittens like Fauna...we pulled little Fauna from a kill shelter where his time was up. When we got him to our vets, they diagnosed several congenital health issues most likely the result of a cat breeding experiment gone wrong. Thanks to you we were able to cover the eventual $5,000+ in vet bills needed to address his various health issues. And, we are happy to report Fauna is now thriving in his long-term foster home!

Senior cats like Princess….at 17-years old Princess found herself at a high-kill shelter after her person passed away; in bad health, Princess had no chance. KSC responded to pleas to rescue her despite knowing that we could be burdened with major veterinary bills and little hope of seeing her adopted. It is only because of your support that Princess and the other senior cats KSC regularly rescues are able to live out their golden years in our "retirement home," surrounded by the love they deserve.

And cats like Maxie...found outside with her kittens who all got adopted, our sassy gal was none too sure about people. In fact, it took her 4 years until she finally decided to adopt her family! KSC is a rare safe haven for "hard to adopt" cats like Maxie. Our dedicated volunteers give them the TLC they need to learn to trust and all the time required until they are ready for their forever homes...even if it takes 4 years!

These miracles are only made possible through the generous support of donors like you. Your contributions will help us pay our veterinary bills and save the lives of cats like Fauna, Princess and Maxie.

America’s largest animal sanctuary’s No More Homeless Pets® network promotes collaboration among rescue groups: When we work together, we save more lives; it's as simple as that. 

We help educate and assist the local community

We partner with the Lyles Crouch "Animal Crusaders" program and regularly host the school children as well as local scout troops at our facility, with the aim of teaching children about animal welfare. KSC also tries to keep cats in their homes whenever possible by providing food and litter to families who find themselves temporarily in need of support, through our Food Pantry Program. 

Please Help Us Continue Our Rescue Work And To Serve the Alexandria Community! We survive solely on private donations and have to raise an estimated $250,000 in 2017 so we can continue to provide a safe haven and the necessary veterinary care for Alexandria’s homeless cats and kittens like Fauna, Princess and Maxie until they find their forever homes!
