LCJC's toll-free statewide hotline, open 5 days per week, is the first line of communication for thousands of vulnerable residents facing critical legal challenges including eviction, bankruptcy, domestic violence, divorce, custody/visitation, consumer debt, successions, and more. In addition to ensuring that families throughout the state can quickly access legal information and advice when they need it most, this service alleviates the caseload of more "traditional" legal services organizations by identifying appropriate candidates for self-representation and guiding them through the process of filing forms drafted by our attorneys.
LCJC also provides free legal clinics in communities where legal services are limited or lacking. In 2016, we launched our annual "Justice Tour," a one of a kind outreach program to bring legal services to the neediest rural parishes in the state. Through the Justice Tour, hundreds of rural families who were otherwise unable to obtain legal services have gained access to free legal information and forms. If you are interested in learning more about the Justice Tour, winner of the Louisiana State Bar Association's "Legal Services Innovation" award in 2016, please see the multimedia section of our profile for a short introductory video!
In 2016, we inaugurated our innovative "Virtual Self-Help" program, allowing residents of select parishes to speak with an attorney and receive legal forms via online chat at their local library. This program is currently available in Webster, Concordia, and Iberia Parishes, and is in the process of expanding to three more parishes.
LCJC is currently fundraising for our hotline, our Justice Tour, and our hurricane preparation and recovery efforts leading into hurricane season 2018. Thank you for stopping by!
