$5,000 Goal

LaMa Animal Rescue and Support Services is a partnership that originated between a group of volunteers who saw the need to be an advocate for the many abandoned and abused animals in North Webster Parish, Louisiana (LA) united with our northern counterparts of compassionate fosters in Massachusetts (MA).

LaMa focuses on saving stray, abused and animals in need in Northwest Louisiana and the surrounding areas. Our mission is to educate the community on the importance of spay/neuter and regular medical care. LaMa relies on a network of qualified foster homes to house the animals while their fosters receive medical care, food and TLC. Once the animal is healthy, they are scheduled for transport to pre-approved rescues in the New England area where they quickly find their forever homes.

In 2023, LaMa Animal Rescue transported 723 abandoned dogs and puppies and 142 cats and kittens to our rescue partners in other states. In 2023, our goal was to save and transport at least seven hundred and we exceeded that goal.  We had ten foster families caring for abandoned pets in 2022. Through careful recruiting efforts, training, and public awareness for the need of additional foster families, we now have 20 foster families by the end of 2023.

Our 2024 plan is to launch coordinated efforts with local schools to reach a minimum of 20 classrooms of 4th and 5th graders in Webster Parish, with the message that they can make a difference in the lives of their pets. Through understanding the responsibilities and meeting their own pet needs, we can change concepts and educate our community.

Our first quarterly vaccination drive is scheduled for March 2024. We provide live traps and assistance in trapping feral animals and offer care and spay/neuter assistance. LaMa Animal Rescue endeavors to educate and inform on the importance of parasite and heartworm prevention and treatment. We strive to create connected relationships with both in-state and out-of-state rescues. In 2024, we will continue to provide opportunities for additional private transporters for short trips such as veterinary visits. Currently we spay and neuter animals (if they are old enough) before they leave Webster Parish. The single most important factor that can impact our plan in 2024 is the availability of funding for spaying and neutering of family pets. We will continue to work toward that and our other goals, as well as education on heartworm prevention.

We service a very rural low-income area of northwest Louisiana with no funding from state or local resources and depend solely on donations and fundraising efforts.  We welcome and appreciate anyone willing to partner with us!
