For 70 years, the ACLU of Louisiana has been on the front lines of justice, and we’re not slowing down.

We’re filing lawsuits, exposing corruption, and fighting for our community. Every day, we defend the rights of Louisianans and push back against systems that harm us.

Your support powers this work.

Across Louisiana, we’re taking action where it matters most:

  • Immigration: In a state that has become a hub for immigration detention, we’re showing up where others can’t. We educate people on their rights, document systemic abuses, and fight illegal detention in federal court, helping reunite families and restore freedom.
  • Voting Rights: We are deeply outraged by the decision from the Supreme Court of the United States in Louisiana v. Callais, which strikes at the heart of hard-won protections under the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and threatens to further erode voters’ ability to participate fully and fairly in our democracy. While the majority attempts to frame this ruling as limited, its real-world consequences will be profound, opening the door to maps that dilute political power and undermine decades of progress toward equity in representation. At the ACLU of Louisiana, we refuse to accept this setback as the final word, we remain unwavering in our commitment to challenge discriminatory maps, defend the rights of Black voters, and fight for a democracy that reflects and respects all of us.
  • Police Accountability: Through our Justice Lab, we’re challenging racist policing head-on. We’ve secured nearly $1.5 million for our clients and continue to bring high-impact cases that hold law enforcement accountable.

At the ACLU of Louisiana, we envision a state where justice, equity, and freedom aren’t just promises, they’re reality.

Today, join us in building that future.

Testimonials

Immigrants' Rights: "Last year on October 30, I drove six hours to an immigration detention facility at night, looking for my 18-year-old client, Juan. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) kidnapped Juan, who uses a pseudonym due to age and privacy concerns, off the street in New York while he was on his way to work. ICE then sent him to Louisiana where he languished in the Jackson Parish Correctional Center for nearly three months. Driving up to the facility at 11 p.m., I had a federal court order in hand, signed by a judge who had ordered Juan’s immediate release. But when I showed up, the correction officers refused to set him free. So, in the middle of the night, our partner attorneys and I filed a motion alleging ICE was disobeying the court order. The next morning, we secured Juan’s freedom."- Nora Ahmed, ACLU of Louisiana Legal Director

Voting Rights: "We want our voices to finally be heard at the ballot box and reflected in the decisions our lawmakers are making. For us, that is what is at stake in this case."- Dr. Dorothy Nairne, ACLU of Louisiana Plaintiff
