These are unprecedented times. Current economic uncertainties and the loss of federal funding are placing farms at great risk. At Land For Good, we rely in part on federal funds to provide essential services to farmers. We need you to help us bridge the current funding gap.

With your gift, we can continue showing up for the farmers who need us. Last year, we provided one-on-one advising to 414 individuals securing land access, improving tenure, transferring farms, or making land available. Additionally, we trained nearly 2,000 farmers, landowners, and service providers, while over 6,000 utilized our online resources. Farmers need expert guidance to navigate farmland access and make sound land tenure decisions. Access to land remains the biggest challenge for beginning farmers. High land prices, development pressure, and rising interest rates make it harder to secure farmland. At the same time, nearly one-third of New England’s farms are operated by farmers over 65. Many are ready to retire, but skilled advising is critical for a successful farm transfer and establishing a successor. Land For Good’s unique approach to connect farm seekers and landowners across New England fills a crucial gap.

Recent federal actions to freeze or cancel funding and terminate programs are exacerbating these challenges. We are hearing from farmers who are unable to close on a land purchase because their farm loan has been delayed; others who are weighing options because a viable farm transfer is now in question. Many face canceled contracts and rising prices, limiting their ability to add critical infrastructure. Farmers, landowners, and other partners depend on Land For Good as a trusted resource.

2024 was a milestone year for Land For Good, marking 20 years of working to ensure that farmland remains in the hands of farmers. Our work has impacted more than 107,000 acres of farmland across New England; that’s more than all the farmland in Rhode Island combined. We share this achievement with donors like you because your belief in and support for our work helps us keep farmers farming.

Despite all the financial uncertainty that surrounds us, Land For Good is well-positioned in 2025—and beyond—to continue our work. Our future direction is outlined in our new strategic plan. We continue to expand secure farmland access, tenure, and transfer, but we can’t do it alone.
