Landmarks Foundation of Montgomery

Landmarks Foundation was formed at a meeting of the Montgomery Historical Development Commission and was put into place in 1967.  The Ordeman-Shaw house was purchased the following year and underwent considerable restoration and opened to the public in 1971.  About 50 buildings have been brought into the six block area known as Old Alabama Town.

Old Alabama Town educates a mixed audience by providing tourists with a cultural resource of southern architecture, history and culture.  The musuem also provides the community with events to promote the mission.

Thousands of school children tour Old Alabama Town each year to get a better understanding of the way people lived and worked in Alabama during the 19th century.  Role players and guides take the students on a trip back in time to experience life 150 years ago.

Rescued Relics, a salvage warehouse, is operated by Landmarks Foundation and is run completely by volunteers and items are collected and sold on a donation basis.  This is one of the only non-profit salvage stores in the country.
