Foundation Priority Projects 2016-2018:

Early Reading. Learning to read early in life ensures the ability to read to learn throughout life.  Children who enter school ready to learn experience more success, more confidence and a better chance of reaching their dreams. Every day library early reading programs in the branches and out in the community help young children learn to read and follow their curiosity, support parents and caregivers as the children's first teachers and spread early literacy activities that lead to school readiness and student success.

Digital Literacies. Digital production of videos, graphics, video games, photography and music are today's tools for expression, learning and employment. New TechArt Studio programs connect local youth with new technology, production and employment opportunities. This service innovation is being launched with investment from local community partners and corporate sponsors.

Student Achievement. We're expanding neighborhood-based homework help in response to high demand from students and parents. Currently in eight branches with the help of UNLV education students as tutors, the program is now expanding to meet demand with the help of certified teachers familiar with local curriculum standards.  The results:  homework completion, parent support, accelerated learning and academic success.

Expanded Business and Employment. Success in times of profound change requires continuous learning and adaptation. The Foundation is cultivating new partnerships and investment in library learning opportunities for all residents in our region. Some highlights include English language instruction, meet-ups for business owners, computer training and other learning activities that help people attain greater wealth and economic security.

Vibrant Minds and Community Life. Libraries are the community living room where people encounter prize-winning authors, world-class dance and theater productions, films and cultural celebrations.  It is an active meet-up spot for ambitious people who pursue an active life, both in the mind and in the community.
