That’s what happened to *Kevin, who found the Law Foundation after being retaliated against by his landlord when he complained about recurring bed bug infestations, mildew, and plumbing problems at his apartment. Thanks to support from people like you, our attorneys were able to provide free legal help to Kevin, and his landlord finally fixed the problems in his apartment at no cost. Together, we gave Kevin a safe place to call home.

Kevin's not alone. Though we live in Silicon Valley, a hub of innovation and wealth, the explosive growth of our region has left some members of our community behind. The lack of affordable housing is especially hard on low-income renters and exacerbates poverty, overcrowding, and housing instability. Of the more than 6,500 homeless people in Santa Clara County in 2015, 16% were part of the foster care system (2015 Santa Clara County Homeless Census and Survey).  

Making matters worse, the U.S. legal system is complex and difficult to navigate. Though some people in our community have the resources and the know-how to hire the help they need, for people with limited income, many of whom face additional challenges stemming from illness, a disability, being underage or elderly, or having limited English-speaking skills, our legal system can be especially difficult to understand. But support from people like you allows the Law Foundation to be the creative, highly-connected organization that navigates the system on their behalf.

Today, our team of 80 attorneys, social workers and staff provides more than 8,000 families and individuals annually with access to safe and affordable housing, help secure stable homes for abused and neglected children and address a number of other issues including discrimination, disability rights and human trafficking—and we couldn't do it without you.
