Legal Counsel for the Elderly

• For more than 40 years, Legal Counsel for the Elderly has been “Making a Difference in the District” as the leading provider of free legal services for vulnerable D.C. seniors — helping over 5,000 older neighbors in need annually.

• One out of every six D.C. residents is age 60 or older, and the District has the nation’s second-highest percentage of seniors living at or below the poverty level — nearly 15%.

• Reflecting the diversity of our community, more than 90% of those we serve are persons of color, and 3 out of 4 seniors we help are low-income women. We concentrate our outreach and deliver services to the neighborhoods and communities that need our help the most: Wards 1, 5, 7 and 8.
