The League for Animal Protection of Huntington, Inc. (LAP) is an all volunteer, non-profit organization established in 1973 and dedicated to the rescue, care and rehabilitation of stray, abandoned and abused animals in Huntington Township. Our goal is to continue this crucial work on behalf of all of the animals that have passed through our doors.

In 1982 under an agreement with the Town of Huntington, the Grateful Paw Cat Shelter was built. This refuge without cages, which is a temporary home to kittens and cats is managed and staffed by dedicated volunteers and supported solely by contributions to the League. All of our felines are vet checked, FELV and FIV tested, inoculated and spayed or neutered before being placed for adoption.

Volunteers from LAP assist the Town of Huntington in their dog placement program. The volunteers evaluate, exercise, socialize, train and groom the dogs housed in the shelter. Some dogs are placed in foster care until they are able to find a permanent home. Most importantly, they are given a LAP volunteer’s love and attention.

Our primary goal is to place an animal in a PERMANENT home. LAP carefully screens all potential adopters and follows up to ensure that both owner and pet are adapting well. We maintain a lifelong commitment to our companion animals.
