LWV Lexington activities in 2026 work toward six strategic objectives/organizational goals:

1: Protecting Democracy and Voting Rights

We push back on threats to democracy and voting rights. (Video) We register voters and defend all citizens' voting rights. We monitor government activities from city councils and school boards to state legislatures and the U.S. Congress. We educate citizens about their rights and responsibilities. We sponsor candidate forums and public issues forums. We study issues in order to arrive at member consensus before taking action by testifying, and educating legislators on our positions. At times we litigate in court to defend our democracy. Donate today to help us protect our democracy!

2: Stand with HER Story - Women in History: Lexington History Museum Display

Historically, women have not been fully appreciated in our retelling of Lexington’s past. We're changing that. (Video) Stand with HER Story is an opportunity for Lexington to celebrate the critical roles of everyday women in our lives and communities. All women submitted will be added to a display at the Lexington History Museum to celebrate their impact. (PS: Submissions are still open! 3: Restoring Voting Rights to Kentuckians with Felony Convictions

Did you know Kentucky is only one of three states that denies voting for a lifetime for any felony conviction? This is called felony disenfranchisement, and it affects over 153,000 Kentuckians. We have been working on this issue for over 20 years and feel there are new opportunities to make an impact this year.  This has been enshrined in Kentucky’s constitution since 1891 (134 years!). 4: Candidate Forums + Voter Education

Democracy doesn’t work without informed voters. During election season, we hold nonpartisan, neutral Candidate Forums (debates) to help voters make more informed decisions on their ballots. We also hold events for community members to meet their local candidates and ask questions. These activities are especially important for local races which often do not get much media attention. We are planning to host “Voting Parties” to gather voters to inform themselves and encourage themselves and their neighbors to vote. Donate to help us continue informing voters! 5: Global League

New citizens need support to fully participate in our democracy. We welcome new citizens, and people on the path to citizenship, through our Global League outreach. We partner with organizations including New Americans Initiative and Kentucky Refugee Ministries to encourage everyone in Lexington to know their rights under the Constitution, to encourage all eligible voters to participate in our democracy, and to consider candidates’ positions on issues relevant to immigrants when deciding how to vote.

6: Civic Education

Civic education gives citizens the knowledge and confidence to use their voices—because you can’t protect what you don’t understand. When our community knows how democracy works, they know how to make it work for them. Donate today to help adults and students better understand how our government works, how they can make an impact, and how to amplify their voices for change.
