ACADEMICS, ARTS and TRAVEL:    

Following and enhancing the NYS curriculum. TLT produces graduates who are self-assured and able to do well in a broad range of public and private high school settings.  While at TLT, students cultivate their own creative expression and a sense of themselves in a cultural and global context. 

ARTS PROGRAM:     
Our Arts Program is built into the school day and emphasizes performing and visual arts.  Our dance program includes Ballet, African Dance, Modern Dance, and Hip Hop.  Our drum students learn history and technique of African drumming.   Theater students develop their acting technique and perform two productions each year.  Visual artists study drawing and painting.   

GLOBAL and LOCAL TRAVEL PROGRAM:  
Each year, TLT travels locally with all grades, nationally with middle school students, and internationally with its eighth graders. 

Through the Global Exposure Program eighth grade students have traveled abroad to countries including Kenya, Mexico, Ghana, France, Gambia, China, South Africa, Spain, Egypt, Morocco, India, Senegal, and Turkey.  The seventh grade students experience fall and winter camping in upstate New York and Massachusetts, where they learn about nature and play winter sports.  The sixth graders travel to the Gullah Islands (the Low Sea Islands of South Carolina) and to historic Charleston, where they learn about the history and legacy of the area.

A COMMUNITY FUNDED INDEPENDENT SCHOOL:

The school’s founder and current principal, Lois Gregory, helped build the school with faith, prayer and a dedicated team of educators, parents, and staff.  The Learning Tree uses fundraising extensively to help keep its tuition affordable (less than $7,000 annually) for its constituents.  Parents are required to play an active role in fundraising and school activities.

Community support is essential to preserving The Learning Tree as a treasured institution and precious resource for generations to come.  We invite you to become a regular contributor.
