The Legacy Foundation of SC

The LEGACY Foundation of SC collaborates with its community stakeholders to create safe spaces of learning, inspirational field trips, memorable moments, and ways to put the fun back into educational experiences.  A Dream will never become a reality if it is not given permission to flourish.  All contributions made towards our efforts will be used to help with the reimagining of a way forward post Covid19. 

Over the past 13 years, our family mourned the loss of many beloved family members.  In the process of our healing, my father and I came up with the idea of starting a foundation to honor their lives and allow their energy to still live-on in this realm.  My mother, a successful businesswoman, community volunteer, and active member of a thriving Booster Club organization; my aunt Mae Francis, administrator in the Guidance Offices of Jasper County Schools; and my cousin, Rhonda Webber, an academic achiever with great potential.  All of whom were passionate about education and willing to positively impact the life of another.  We felt The LEGACY Foundation would be our most beneficial and tangible method by lending itself to impact young minds. 

After speaking with various persons and doing research on the county’s dropout rate, the subpar test scores, and academic performance as it relates to other counties, I was broken.  To know that Jasper County students are ranked number 44 out of the 46 counties in SC, yet they are meeting the county’s academic expectations…  This, within itself, is a problem and should no longer be accepted.  I don’t have any children but my family is my life and for another child to go through the challenges I faced once out of Jasper County, I felt that something must be done.  So, therefore The LEGACY Foundation established. 

I must admit, our students and teachers have recently seen some great strides.  The test scores and statewide ranking have improved, and our students are committed to building and experiencing bright futures.   The work must continue.
