Giving Tuesday/every kid deserves an education
$3,795 Raised
It's been seven years since I was randomly contacted by a young Sudanese refugee, John, living in a Ugandan refugee camp. Little did I know at the time that his simple Facebook Messenger request for school funds would result in a 501(C)3 recognized charitable organization; a mission that to date has funded the educations of 18 young underserved Ugandan adults. Youth who otherwise would have fallen through the cracks, with no hope of a future.
I've traveled to Uganda three times, meeting our students, discussing their plans and dreams, and visiting some of their homes and schools. Witnessing first-hand the living conditions and needs of the average Ugandan, my desire to help has intensified. We plan to strengthen Let's Send These Kids to School so we can help in the most effective and empowering way: through education.
Staying at the Padre Pio Monastery in Kabulamuliro, I've met and traveled the country with the priest responsible for validating John's identity, Father Godwin Ogam. We’ve discussed the forward direction of our project, with our goal to create an even more effective charity that will continue to serve Uganda's most needy.
Let's Send These Kids to School has been raising money through crowd funding platforms and four live fundraisers in its four year existence. With a little less than $20,000 yearly budget, we have been able to pay tuitions, room and board, and other educational expenses for underserved Ugandan youth for the past seven years . With just a little more effort and help from those who share the vision of our mission, we hope to double this amount over the coming years.
