Let Us Breathe Abilene

Let Us Breathe Abilene is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2020 to advocate for, empower, and provide resources to underserved individuals and families throughout Abilene and the surrounding community. Our mission is rooted in justice, opportunity, second chances, and building a stronger future for those who need support the most.

Our core programs include Fresh Kicks, Fresh Start; Second Chances Reentry and Community Service; Black History Month programs; and the annual Juneteenth Abilene Celebration. Through these initiatives, we support local youth, help individuals successfully return to the community, celebrate Black history and culture, and connect families with valuable resources.

Phase 1 of the Former Fannin Project

The Former Fannin Elementary School is being transformed into a mixed-use community complex designed to bring new opportunities and essential services to Abilene’s northside. Let Us Breathe Abilene will operate from Phase 1 of the property, which will serve as the organization’s primary home and program headquarters.

Phase 1 will provide space for:

● Youth and family programs

● Reentry and community-service support

● Educational workshops and workforce training

● Community meetings and resource events

● Volunteer coordination

● Program supplies and storage

● Administrative offices

● Cultural and neighborhood activities

Restoring Phase 1 requires support for repairs, utilities, security, heating and air conditioning, technology, furnishings, program equipment, and ongoing building operations. This phase will give Let Us Breathe Abilene a permanent and stable location to expand our programs, strengthen partnerships, and serve more people throughout the year.

The Former Fannin Project is more than the restoration of an old school—it is an investment in people, opportunity, and the future of our community. By supporting Phase 1, donors and community partners are helping transform a once-vacant property into a place where lives can be rebuilt, young people can thrive, and the entire community can grow.
