Lexington Opera Society Inc

OperaLex and UK Opera Theatre are household words among the arts patrons in the Bluegrass. OperaLex is a private, not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting and promoting opera in the Bluegrass and the University of Kentucky Opera Theatre.

OperaLex supports the Schmidt Opera Outreach Program (SOOP), a program featuring performances by UK Opera students, past and present, that is taken into schools all across the Commonwealth.

OperaLex has no staff and no overhead. All charitable contributions go to our programs.  Our volunteers work hard on the following projects:

 

*Financial support to the UK Opera Theatre – in excess of $75,000 last year

*Hosting the Metropolitan Opera Auditions

*Grants for Lexington Opera Outreach to public schools throughout the state

*The popular opera lectures on Saturday mornings offered to any interested person

*Ticket scholarships for young people to attend opera productions

*Scholarships for students meeting certain criteria.
