Lexington Rescue Mission

For nearly 25 years, the Lexington Rescue Mission has been more than a place
to find food, clothing, or shelter. It has been a doorway to hope, a refuge of
dignity, and a living testimony to the love of Christ.

Every week, nearly 200 neighbors step across our threshold—twice as many as
last year—seeking life’s most basic essentials. Yet what they discover is far
greater than material help. They leave with encouragement spoken into weary
hearts and hope rekindled. One guest told us, “I didn’t know when I woke up
this morning that God was going to lead me here and meet my every need.”

This year, through BGGives Day, we are inviting you to join
us in fueling our Client Assistance Fund. This fund is more
than a budget line—it is a lifeline. It transforms ordinary items into
extraordinary gifts: a bus pass becomes a bridge to opportunity, a pair of
shoes becomes a step toward stability, a sleeping bag becomes a shield against
the cold.

As winter draws near, our urgent prayer is to place 150 pairs of
boots on the feet of men and women living on Lexington’s streets. A
single pair of warm boots can mean the difference between frostbite and safety,
between despair and hope.

When you give, you are not simply meeting a need—you are wrapping someone in
the tangible love of Christ. You are helping them walk not only with warmth,
but with dignity.

Who We Are

The number of people struggling with poverty and homelessness is growing in light of the COVID-crisis. The Lexington Rescue Mission is committed to keeping our doors open during this pandemic. Our clients and our neighbors in the Georgetown Street corridor, which has a poverty level of over 40%, are particularly vulnerable during a crisis, We provide help to meet their critical needs -- food, clothing, housing, and employment -- and build a relationship of trust to minister to their deeper needs. Through prayer, education, mentoring, and pastoral counseling, we offer healing from the inside out. Ultimately, we invite hurting people into the presence of Jesus Christ, who provides hope for tomorrow and for eternity.

Last month, we served nearly 5,000 meals, (nearly 1,000 more than we were serving in January). About one-third of the people we are serving are coming to the Mission for help for the first time due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, to the 5,000 meals distributed last month in to-go containers, we also distributed 59 food bags to our neighbors in need. We provided 86 items of cleaning supplies to people who have no access to them, and we distributed 124 hygiene items such as soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes and more. We also provide our guests at the Mission with hand sanitizer and masks, and teach them about other safety procedures such as social distancing. We are committed to following all best practices provided by the CDC, Governor Beshear and Mayor Gorton.

We work to meet the needs of the whole person -- physical, emotional, and spiritual -- during this time of pandemic. We continue to offer pastoral care for our guests and hold chapel three times a week. Thanks to relationships with local businesses, our Employment Division has been able to secure jobs for 25 of our clients at a time when jobs are hard to find.

Also during April, we housed 25 men through our transitional housing program. This provided these men who were homeless, being released from incarceration or a rehab program, to have a safe place during the COVID-19 crisis. They have food, needed supplies, a roof over their heads and case management to help them move forward toward attaining lasting sobriety and independent living.

We continue to pursue the highest quality of services, and as such have maintained our accreditation from CityGate (national association of Gospel rescue missions), and a Top-Rated Nonprofit designation from Great Nonprofits. We are also committed to fiscal transparency and accountability, as demonstrated by our accreditation by the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA). LRM was an early adopter of GoodGiving.net, operated by the Blue Grass Community Foundation, and has received the Platinum Seal from the GuideStar Exchange for our commitment to transparency.
