Founded in 2005 by a former refugee and survivor of sexual assault during the Liberia civil wars, The LCC aids in victims’ emotional and physical recovery by empowering survivors to seek help for their overall physical health and sexual/reproductive well-being.

The gender-based violence that permeated the fabric of Liberian society during the civil war has left a residue of misogyny which is palpable and continues to devastate women and children even long after the victims have found physical safety.

In 2006, realizing the dire need for a safe house for victims in Liberia, Liberia Crisis Center (LCC) opened the first safe shelter in Liberia to only serve children and women survivors’ of SGBV and children born to SGB. LCC offers a wide variety of services that range from transitional shelter, counseling services, legal assistance, child care, mentoring, advocacy and prevention programs in schools and community in both rural and urban areas of Liberia.

The LCC shelter works with alert teams (women) in 25 communities throughout Monrovia and its surrounding areas. Members of the alert team function as firsthand informants and support counselors to victims.

In Liberia, The LCC is a shelter and a safe-haven for abused women and children and provides mentoring for victims of rape, domestic violence, sexual assault and sex trafficking. The LCC also sponsors awareness campaigns to break the cycle of silence within the Liberian community.

In the US, The LCC is an advocacy organization tasked with the eradication of rape, domestic violence, sexual assault and sex trafficking. The LCC provides assistance to the Liberian immigrant community through social services, law enforcement and additional agencies working with survivors.

In Liberia, The LCC programs include:

- Transitional housing/shelter for victims of sexual and gender based violence
