Life Pieces To Masterpieces (LPTM) uses artistic expression to develop character, unlock potential and prepare African American males to transform their lives and community. Life Pieces To Masterpieces serves hundreds of African American young men and boys growing up in Washington, DC’s most poverty-stricken and volatile neighborhoods (Ward 7 and 8). Research shows that these neighborhoods are plagued by a myriad of social, physical, and mental health problems including teen pregnancy, lack of positive male role models, violence, gang activity, HIV/AIDS, and incarceration.

LPTM provides our program participants (apprentices) with after school and weekend programs focusing on daily homework assistance, leadership development, and meditation. We’ve developed an effective Four-Part Human Development System curriculum to empower young men and boys to know that through their thoughts, words, and actions…they can determine their own destiny.

Our Success:

  • 100 percent of our students have graduated from high school and have been accepted to college or post-secondary training (vs. 33% of the students in Ward 7 & 8 graduate high school and only 14% of them enter college)
  • 100 percent of participants are on track to be promoted to the next grade level.
  • 100 percent of parents report that their sons are more confident, make better decisions, and speak in a positive manner about their future.
  • 100 percent of boys can identify and explain three or more major goals for the future.
  • 100 percent of boys can identify three positive adult role models.
  • 90 percent of participants see improved GPAs.

We need YOUR help in order for our program to continue to grow and serve more African American young men and boys!
