Mission Statement:
To reduce the families, children, individuals, and elders who are experiencing homelessness in Eastern Sussex County, DE.
Lighthouse for Broken Wings:
Provides transitional/permanent supportive housing. In addition, operates “A Sheltering Heart emergency shelter during the winter seasons.
Deliver holistic wrap-around services to address the mental, medical, and physical needs of the client.
Encouraging Education and occupational training through the various organizations in Delaware.
To deliver food, drinks, and clothes for those in need.
To advocate for those who are experiencing homelessness.
To offer resources and referrals to appropriate agencies to everyone
To connect the individuals with employers and housing opportunities.
A Sheltering Heart Emergency Shelter Program:
To provide emergency shelter during the winter season.
To provide a safe, dry, clean, and healthy environment
To provide nutritional meals throughout the season and last season 2020-2021 served 25,000 meals provided by Cape Henlopen School district, churches, communities, organizations, restaurants, and individuals. Thank you, Everyone.
To provide employment opportunities within the community. Last season 2020-2021, over 55% of the clients held one job, others had financial backing, and several had two jobs.
To provide education opportunities via the Sussex Tech Adult program. Last season 2020-2021, two clients attended the Sussex Tech Adult Education program and completed their programs.
To provide opportunities for COVID-19 testing, periodically. Last season 2020-2021, 80 individuals, families, children, and others participated in the COVID-19 and the results were 100% free of COVID-19 during that time of testing.
To provide opportunities for the communities, organizations, individuals to become volunteers. Last Season 2020-2021, over 250+ volunteers assisted in meals, transportation, pantry, and supporting the clients.

Conclusion:
As a person who has experienced homelessness, I was hungry, cold, restless, and feeling hopeless. The worst feeling to experience was listening to several people criticizing homelessness and passing judgment upon individuals and myself who are experiencing homelessness. No one asked, “Why are you homeless?” and/or “May I help you to move forward out of homelessness? Just made
