Dan Henderson was the man with the vision for The Lighthouse. He had been an armed robber, prison escapee and heroin addict. So, when he talked Lexington’s addicts and homeless, listened. Many even turned their own lives around. We lost Dan to liver disease in 2004 when the Men’s Recovery Program was opening, but his legacy and spirit will remain with us forever.

In the early 90’s, Dan and Tay started going to The Salvation Army. Before long, they opened their own ministry in downtown Lexington, KY. They began ministering to the homeless, poor, addicted and anyone that God sent their way.

When Dan died in 2004, Tay quit her job and took over. Now this year the Lighthouse is celebrating 10 years of service to Lexington's poor and needy! We have grown to serve around 40,000 meals every year and house 12 men in our Nehemiah House program. Looking ahead we can't wait to raise the funds needed to finish our expansion and watch the light coming from The Lighthouse shine deeper into the most lost neighborhoods in our city!
