Lighthouse Mission Church Inc

Lighthouse Mission was founded in 1992 when Elaine Bohrer, a local widow, felt the call to serve struggling Long Islanders. Armed with only 10 bologna and cheese sandwiches, Elaine drove around Suffolk County and when she saw someone in need would get out of her car, offer them a sandwich and say “God loves you!” From this simple act of faith Lighthouse Mission began to grow as God sent volunteers to help and even provided a building in Patchogue, New York at the cost of $1 per month’s rent.

In the 22 years since Elaine set out with her sandwiches, Lighthouse Mission has grown to become Long Island’s largest Mobile Food Pantry, providing food and hope for more than 3,200 Suffolk County residents each week. Lighthouse Mission volunteers and staff continue the tradition of bringing the love of Christ to those in need through this innovative ministry.

Following a transition to our current location in North Bellport, New York, Lighthouse Mission began offering several Youth Development Programs to mentor local at-risk youth. In line with our mission statement, these programs aim to help these kids turn away from temptations to drug use and promiscuity and towards purpose-driven living. Mature volunteers and staff act as role models and mentors for the youth, and develop strong life-giving relationships with them.
