The Lighthouse of the Big Bend's mission is to assist people with vision loss in their pursuit of independence. Lighthouse clients are blind and visually impaired individuals (and their families) and are served through five programs offered throughout the 11-county Florida Big Bend region. The Early Intervention/Blind Babies Program serves children ages birth to five and their families; the teen Transition Program serves youth ages 15 to 18 as they transition from high school to employment or advanced education and training; the Vocational Rehabilitation Program serves adults ages 18 to 55 with job readiness training, resume development, and job interview coaching; the Independent Living Programs (2) are designed for individuals aged 55-plus who need training in mobility and orientation, assistive technology and adaptive aids, activities of daily living, and management of secondary disabilities.
