Ligonier Valley Library Association

A nonprofit organization

The mission of the Ligonier Valley Library is to provide free, open and equal access to ideas and information to everyone.

The Ligonier Valley Library functions as a center of information, education, and entertainment. The library facilitates self-education and study and encourages recreational reading for all ages by offering a collection of print and non-print media. Although books remain the foundation of the collection, the increasing diversity of resources has led the library to explore new ways to provide for patrons' needs. Computers, online databases and electronic media enrich the collection and provide enhanced access to information.
The library supports educational, civic, and cultural activities in the community by offering a variety of programs, lectures and exhibits. The Pennsylvania Room contains one of the finest local history collections in Westmoreland County.
The Children's Department is where youngsters are first introduced to the many possibilities that books and libraries have to offer and where life-long reading and library habits are shaped and nurtured. A comprehensive program has been developed for children ranging from toddler to young adult. Weekly reading programs and special events are offered throughout the year. The Children's Department currently has a collection of 18,000 items including books, audio-visual materials, and software programs. Two AWE early literacy
computer workstations introduce young children to digital content. A "make & create" station fosters creativity and supports STEM and STEAM learning. Three homework stations offer Internet and word processing software.
