Everyday, thousands of animals are killed in shelters. They die because there isn't enough room to house them or enough money to take care of them. The sad truth is that there are just too many dogs and cats and we cannot adopt our way out of the problem. Spay/Neuter is the proven solution; but, the cost of the procedure is a huge deterrent.

That is why low-cost programs are so important. With your donation, you are contributing to the solution. You are saving hundreds of animals by making sure that one gets spayed/neutered.

Lincoln Animal Ambassadors (LAA) is a grassroots organization that started in June 2008 promoting enrichment of our community by improving the lives of companion animals. In September 2009, our Temporary Assistance Pet Food Bank was opened followed by the first true low-cost spay and neuter program in the Lincoln area in June 2010.

Since the program began we have spayed and neutered over 2,400 animals, preventing thousands of unwanted pets! This plays a huge role in reducing the number of homeless animals turned into the local shelter and rescues.

Since the Pet Food Bank’s inception, it has assisted over 2,000 families and their family pets and distributed nearly 250,000 pounds of food. Companion animals and people often rely on each other for their mental and physical well-being, so this program helps prevent the trauma that results when pet guardians can’t afford to take care of their pets, and are faced with the possibility of surrendering their pets to a shelter.

LAA is run entirely by volunteers, donations and grants from the community. We could not do this without great community support. Not only have we been blessed to be supported by many citizens and organizations in Lincoln doing food drives and fundraisers, we are also supported by many local companies. We currently work with nine local veterinarians who make our spay and neuter program possible.

LAA is addressing the root causes of animal homelessness in Lincoln and the surrounding communities.. We are committed to positive change for local companion animals and firmly believe that change comes through education. We provide educational materials and presentations on many animal-related topics. But our most important educational role is to educate, on a one-on-one basis, about being a good, and sometimes better, pet guardian.
