Lincoln Atheists

Lincoln Atheists is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop and support the atheist, rationalist, secular humanist, agnostic, skeptic, and non-theist communities; to provide opportunities for socializing and friendship among these groups; to promote and defend their views; to protect the First Amendment principle of state-church separation; to oppose any discrimination based upon religious conviction, particularly when it is directed at the non-religious; to expose the dangers of supernaturalism and superstition; to promote science; and to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.

Formed over five years ago as a social group, Lincoln Atheists provided an opportunity for atheists and skeptics to meet other like-minded people, who often felt isolated and alone.  As the group grew we found that we, as atheists, could make a positive impact in our community.  In 2015, Lincoln Atheists incorporated as a non-profit to better achieve our goals of serving Lincoln.

 

How will your donations help Lincoln Atheists?

In 2015, Lincoln Atheists along with a collaboration of other Nebraska secular groups, put on a display in the Nebraska Capitol to celebrate “Reason This Season.” Our goal was to increase awareness of the viability of secular groups not only in Lincoln but in our state as well. LA specifically focused on the need for Separation of Church and State with an educational display for all visitors of the Capitol to peruse at their leisure. It was a great success and we felt we had a lot of community support. We plan on providing a similar educational display during the Holiday Season of 2016 and can use help funding this worthwhile project.

Also, Lincoln Atheists will be funding a billboard in Lincoln, Nebraska to increase our groups awareness in the community. We feel it is important to let people know that they are not alone in having secular viewpoints and that we provide a place for people to feel safe and secure to discuss any issues that they may be facing. Billboard advertising is not cheap, however, and we can certainly use any help we can get to fund our message!”
