Human Services Federation 

Throughout its 25-plus year history, HSF works to continually inform, involve, strengthen, and increase the capacity, awareness, and effectiveness of nonprofits and the nonprofit sector in our community. For our 120+ members, cooperation and collaboration are essential to solving problems while being responsive to community needs and ensuring quality service delivery in health and human services.

It is our belief that human services should be community-based, accessible, defined, planned, and monitored while valuing effectiveness and professionalism in all we do. Member agencies should be accountable and responsible with resources, while society’s diversity calls us to be inclusive in who we are and what we do through active and consistent participation by all members for the stability and success of HSF.

The Human Services Federation acts as a catalyst to ensure all residents have access to the amenities and services that make Lincoln and Lancaster County a community of opportunity.

HSF takes a leadership role in community health and human services planning, coordination, and advocacy while being proactive and responsive to emerging community issues and building coalitions of individuals and organizations to effectively address identified community needs as they arise.

HSF creates and sustains a center for collection, analysis, and dissemination of health and human services information for the public. Additionally, HSF strives to enhance civic engagement in community-building activities and public advocacy through programs, training, and technical assistance to individuals, organizations, businesses, 
and community-based organizations.

 

The Human Services Federation:

-Co-Chairs the Lincoln Earned Income Tax Credit Coalition, utilizing volunteers to complete more than 5,000 tax returns (free of charge) for local low and moderate income working families and returns more than $7 million a year into the local economy.

-Lead the Lincoln Public Schools/Human Services Federation Behavioral Health Task Force, which works to link school and social service resources to promote healthy and successful outcomes for youth and families.

-Provide case management and agencies training opportunities to build sector knowledge.

-Provide Board of Directors Training for local nonprofits to ensure solid governance practices and promote efficient and effective agencies.

-Offer several pooled insurance program opportunities for member agencies. The options include: Directors and Officers Liability Insurance, Dental Insurance, Vision Insurance, Life Insurance, and Short- and Long-Term Disability Insurance.

-Offer Agency Employee Assistance Program. The goal of the InSight EAP is to provide member agencies access to employee assistance services at a reduced rate. The InSight EAP offers employees, volunteers, and their family member’s brief counseling and problem-solving help. InSight EAP can also provide information and referrals to other community services. The InSight EAP staff is experienced in working with a wide variety of topics such as alcohol and drug abuse, marriage and family issues, and work and relationship issues.
