The Lincoln Municipal Band has the distinction of being both Nebraska's only professional wind ensemble and Nebraska's oldest professional music organization. The Lincoln Municipal Band presented its first concerts on the Nebraska State Fairgrounds in 1907.  Since 1911, the ensemble has presented an annal series of free public concerts on Sunday evenings in July and August, in Lincoln's Antelope Park.  These summer concerts are very popular, attracting thousands of patrons each year.

In addition to the summer concert series, the Lincoln Municipal Band presents educational outreach in Lincoln, with professional musicians visiting middle schools and working with students.  Another form of educational outreach is the John Shildneck Young Artist Competition.  Shildneck, a former conductor of the band for many years, began the tradition of inviting young musicians to solo with the band.  Continuing this tradition, one talented young musician is chosen by audition each year to perform as a soloist with the band.

Your contribution to the Lincoln Municipal Band will help us continue to reach audiences of all ages through educational outreach and free concerts for the community.
