The Lincoln Woman's Club started back in 1911 with the Equal Suffrage Club.  The purpose of the club at that time was to assist in every frage, or women's right to vote in America.  This effort led to the formation of the Lincoln Improvement Club, where it's first major project was the growing sanitation problems in Lincoln.  Bottles, tin cans, and other junk had remained undisturbed since the time of the oldest inhabitant were ruthlessly banished by zealous cohorts in Lincolns first  "Clean-Up Day" a tradition that was born that day and lasted through the years. In 1912 the local group joined the State Federation of Woman's Clubs and at that time became the Woman's Club Of Lincoln.

Carrie Gladding who was considered the "fairy godmother" of the club and other club members and residents of the community decided there was a real need for a clubhouse and in the latter part of 1923 a clubhouse was started and was completed in January of 1924.  The Woman's Club of Lincoln held its first meeting in the new building on April 8th 1924, and is still going strong 100 years later.

Today the building is still owned and maintained by the woman of the club.  Many organizations, schools and private parties rent it for functions that range from weddings, receptions, funerals, business meetings, from church services to community and private functions.  since the mid-20's the clubhouse also has been the site for weekly Rotary meetings and luncheons as well.

Through the years, needs in the community have changed and the club has expanded to become even more involved with the community and do a lot more for the community than in the earlier years.  The Woman's Club has grown so much in the community and its membership is growing as well.  The Woman's Club of Lincoln have big plans for our future.  It is a lot to just maintain a 100 year old building.  When something big goes wrong it is like starting from scratch to try and fix it the right way and still keep it aesthetically correct.  The woman have tried very hard to keep the building running and still looking great!  With the help of our donors and community we feel we can make our Woman's Club of Lincoln even bigger and better than ever before.  That will be for everyone in the community not just for the club members.

Recently, the Woman's Club of Lincoln have decided with all the new community involvement that we are definitely outgrowing our building.  Since we have a big empty side yard next to our building, we have had it surveyed and now have voted to build another building.  This will help us to maintain our Historic building and also help to bring more to our community.  We are now just forming our committees and starting our fundraising process.  We will be using the money from The Big Day of Giving to keep maintaining our old building but also to start funding for our new building as well.  We will need $750,000 to build but we need at least $25,000 to get things started.  Please remember this money will not only benefit the Woman of the Woman's Club but also the community of Lincoln.
