The Links, Incorporated is an international, not-for-profit corporation, established in 1946. The membership consists of more than 17,000 professional women of African descent in 299 chapters located in 41 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, and the United Kingdom. It is one of the nation's oldest and largest volunteer service organizations of extraordinary women who are committed to enriching, sustaining and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry.
The Archway (MO) Chapter of the Links, Incorporated was established in 1993. The Chapter proudly promotes civic, cultural, educational and social justice activities for the benefit of the larger St. Louis Metropolitan community.
The chapter is laser focused on addressing the health disparities Black Americans face through targeted programming and collaborative partnerships, including health symposiums, health screenings, and webinars. During the last 3 years, the Chapter has been awarded Black K.A.R.E. grants to conduct programs to educate and improve awareness of the impact of chronic kidney disease within the Black community. The Chapter also addresses Women's Health issues through programming focused on breast and heart health.
A strong partnership with Marian Middle School allows the chapter to tailor impactful programming for students attending the only all-girls, private, faith based middle school in St. Louis. Creative activities and field trips foster career exploration, social justice, healthy lifestyle, college readiness, and social media safety. Three years ago, we began a NSBEJr Chapter at the school to develop leadership and foster STEAM exploration. At the Jennings School district we provide art and cultural field trips and photography, writing, and career and college exploration programs to middle and high school students.
Supporting and improving educational outcomes for African American students in the St. Louis region has been and continues to be a priority for the chapter. Over $90,000 in Community Service Scholarships have been awarded to deserving college bound high school graduates.
Promoting our culture and expanding art-related education and awareness is also important to the chapter. We sponsor art-related events and activities for students and families in collaboration with the St. Louis Art Museum and other local institutions.
We are proud of our innovative collaborations with AFS, Vitendo for Africa, and the Quest Scholarship Fund. Together we provide meaningful programs and support services to African and International students and families both here and abroad.
Social justice is of critical importance to the chapter. Over the years we have supported voter education, voter registration drives, and issue advocacy.
