ENDING THE SUFFERING THROUGH SPAY AND NEUTER OF COMMUNITY CATS
This year The Little Lion Foundation is opening our very own spay and neuter clinic. Our goal is to hit the Long Beach streets and spay and neuter up to 250 cats a months and ultimately stop the overpopulation of cats in our community. The surgery suite is almost complete but we need to raise more money to get it up and running. Please consider making a donation toward this goal.
TRAP-NEUTER-VACCINATE-RETURN (TNVR)
Where do you think all these shelter animals come from? Why do you think we have so many homeless cats and kittens? They are not all coming from people's homes. In fact, a majority of the animals in shelters across California come from the community as strays!
Here in Sunny California where kitten season is all-year-round, we have a severe overpopulation of homeless cats and kittens on our streets. The only way to fix the problem is to prevent more kittens from being born in the first place by sterilizing community cats. This is called Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR) - which is why we implemented our Kitten Prevention Program in 2021! In this program, we provide spay or neuter surgery, vaccination, microchip and ear tip to outdoor, unaltered cats in the community. After they have recovered, they are then re-released to their outdoor home to live out their lives without creating more!
The Little Lion Foundation is committed to providing quality care to every animal we help. Our dedicated team of volunteers work tirelessly to help make the world a better place for cats in need. Because of them, we are able to provide services in the following ways:
KITTEN NURSERY
In an effort to help underage kittens, we launched and operate Long Beach's first-ever kitten nursery - Little Paws Project. Here, volunteers provide round the clock care for underaged kittens by feeding, cleaning, socializing, and medicating them before they find a foster home! This nursery serves as a safe haven to prevent the needless euthanasia of these innocent lives. Our kitten nursery has proudly served approximately 2500 kittens since opening in 2019.
COMPLETING FAMILIES THROUGH FOSTER AND ADOPTION
Our top priority is to find the perfect home for every Little Lion! To do this, our Foster team placing cats and kittens in a foster home where they can learn how to live in a home and be part of a family while they search for one to call their own. After spay/neuter surgery is complete, our Adoption Team gets to work searching for the purr-fect home for them!
KEEPING FAMILIES TOGETHER THROUGH COMMUNITY WELLNESS
The Little Lion Foundation is dedicated to not only helping pets in need, but their humans too. When COVID-19 arrived, the world was hit extremely hard financially which resulted in more pets being surrendered to the shelter. In an effort to keep families together, The Little Lion Foundation started the Community Wellness program in 2021 which provides free vaccinations, microchipping, deworming, spay/neuter resources, and pet food to families in need. We have also partnered with Michaelson Found Animals to provide these free services every month to different communities in the Greater Los Angeles area. By providing these basic services, we help to keep pets healthy and with their families that love them, out of overcrowded shelters, and relieve our overworked veterinary offices! Everyone wins!
