61% of the world's bird species are declining - and this number is rising every year.

At Ripley Waterfowl Conservancy, we are working to change that.

Ripley Waterfowl Conservancy is a conservation breeding facility that works to preserve the genetics of over 100 species of rare and endangered birds - helping to ensure these species won't disappear.

Ripley is one of the only places you can see these birds anywhere in the Northeast and in some cases, the world - Located in Litchfield we are open to the public on Friday-Sunday from May-November for you to visit these rare and endangered species!

        Why birds?

Birds do more than inspire us, they sustain our world. They control pests, pollinate plants, disperse seeds, and help keep ecosystems in balance. When bird populations decline, it’s an early warning sign that our environment is in trouble.

Protecting waterfowl also protects wetlands - natural systems that filter water, reduce flooding, and support life far beyond birds.

Birds also provide a less tangible service - lifting our spirits with their songs and beauty. Many of us are involved in saving land but imagine if that land becomes empty and silent. A world without birds would be quieter, and far more fragile.

Right now, you can help Ripley in our mission!

Your donation during give local will go towards:

        • Running 15+ incubators and brooders during the breeding season, helping to hatch over 250+ hatchlings each season

        • Building nest boxes & planting our aviaries, providing safe spaces for our birds to lay their eggs

        • Providing nutrition for our flock of 500+ birds that eat over 85,000 lbs of food each year

        • Vaccinating our flock, keeping them safe from life-threatening diseases

        • & so much more!

        Who We Are

Ripley Waterfowl Conservancy is home to one of the largest collections of birds in North America, with over 60 species, totaling 400 birds from around the world. We educate visitors of all ages on the importance of wildlife conservation through hands-on experience with our waterfowl, their wetlands habitat, and our conservation programs. We offer direct access to and engagement with our leading-edge aviculturists, captivating educators, stunning rare birds, and peaceful wetlands habitat.

Ripley Waterfowl Conservancy inspires visitors to value the inter-dependency of all living creatures. By engaging with live birds, children and adults experience the wonder of being close to wildlife, many of which are extremely rare in the wild. Our programs connect students to nature, introducing them to earth’s most magical and enthralling endangered birds, and why they matter to human
health and well-being. These programs are designed to inspire the next generation to take responsibility for the planet they will inherit.

Donations help support our efforts to provide educations programs to underserved schools and camp scholarships to underserved children. In addition, donations support research and conservation efforts for some of the world's most endangered birds.
