The Local Office on Aging is proud to serve our senior neighbors in the Alleghany Highlands! LOA provides a multitude of programs and services for older adults to stay as independent as possible, including our popular Congregate Meals Program, called Diner's Clubs! Diner's Clubs are a way for mobile seniors to meet and socialize with peers, all while receiving a healthy meal and participating in fun and educational activities. LOA offers four clubs in the Alleghany Highlands:

• Diner's Clubs in Covington:
  • at the Falling Spring Senior Center,
  • the Jeter Watson Community Center, and
  • the Boiling Spring Senior Center
• Diner's Club in Clifton Forge at the Sharon Senior Center

LOA provides Meals on Wheels to our homebound seniors in Covington and Clifton Forge, too. This important program brings lunch each day, Monday through Friday, while also providing the senior with a visit from a smiling face.

In addition to helping provide nutrition and socialization to seniors in Alleghany, LOA also offers:

• Homemaker Services - "care for the home:" provides an aide to assist with chores at home
• Personal Care Services - "care for the person:" a trained aide assists with bathing, dressing, toileting, and ambulation
• Transportation: provides rides to vital services such as doctor appointments and the pharmacy
• Medicare counseling: answers questions about Medicare, Medicaid, long-term care insurance, and understanding medical bills
