The Long Beach Ronald McDonald House fills a critical healthcare gap for families of children with life-threatening conditions. Over the past two decades, advances in medical care have dramatically improved survival rates for childhood illnesses, but it is still difficult for many families to access such life-saving treatment options. Some travel hundreds of miles to reach world-class pediatric hospitals like Miller Children's in Long Beach, and it is not uncommon for one or both parents to quit their jobs so they can manage their child's medical needs. This effort places an enormous strain, emotional and financial, on the parents and siblings of these young patients while they attempt to cope with a terrifying diagnosis and perform the day-to-day tasks of normal family life.
Like Miller Children's Hospital, the Long Beach Ronald McDonald House provides a sanctuary for families with the greatest need children whose families stay with us tend to be the sickest, have traveled the furthest distances for care, and spend the longest time in the hospital.
Open 24-hours a day, 7-days a week, 365 days a year, our unwavering commitment to providing comfort, care and support to children and families, while keeping them together as they embrace life and healing with a sense of hope. Even throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, we were able to maintain our services for families at a lower occupancy rate and are thankful that we never had to close our doors to families completely.
We ask for your support in helping the Long Beach Ronald McDonald House sustain vital housing, food and support services for families who are caring for a child receiving treatment at local hospitals for a life-threatening medical condition.
Revenue raised from this year's Long Beach Gives will be used to address the critical supply needs of the House. Items such as shower curtain liners, pillows, guest toiletry baskets, lamps, and comforter sets are all in need of replenishment.
From our House to yours, we hope you and your loved ones remain safe and healthy, and we share our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all for your support.
