Why are private funds vital to Los Gatos students' public education?

The Golden State ranks 49th in the nation for education funding. In Los Gatos Union School District (LGUSD), property taxes cover only 69 percent of the cost per pupil. And that cost is increasing as enrollment grows and budget cuts from the State’s new Local Control Funding Formula take effect. The bottom line: LGUSD is the lowest funded district in the county.

Therefore, to give Los Gatos children the education they need and deserve, the district relies on a blended funding model, which includes public and private funding. And this is why your support of Los Gatos Education Foundation (LGEF) and the Home & School Clubs of the schools in our district is critical.

Through parent, community and business donations, LGEF issues grants to ensure the 3,300 k-8 students in LGUSD have an education that includes science, music, art and counseling programs.  Each Home & School Club funds programs and resources specific to its campus. Together--the district, LGEF, and the H&SCs--deliver the well-rounded education that makes Los Gatos schools great places to educate Los Gatos kids.

Your help is essential in ensuring our wonderful schools continue to deliver a great education to our great kids. Please donate today.
