Assistance League of Los Altos

The Assistance League of Los Altos owns and manages the Costume Bank of Los Altos which is our primary source of funds. The proceeds are used to support our philanthropic programs, including:

HOME is an apartment building adjacent to Stanford Hospital that provides low cost housing for patients who need to stay closeby for extended treatment.  HOME provides a safe, comfortable home away from home for patients and their families/caregivers during a very difficult time.  Our guests are patients from many medical departments, including oncology, transplants, urology and neurology, and they come from all over California and the U.S.  Our guests live atleast 50 miles away, and without HOME would be faced with the impossible challenge of finding affordable short term housing in the surrounding area. Between lost wages, medical bills and short term housing, without HOME, many of our guests could not take advantage of the cutting edge treatment available at Stanford.

"HOME is as important in the process as the doctors and medical center, and we are grateful for its presence".

The apartment units at HOME are clean and very functional, but since they were built in the 1980's, they are in real need of a face lift.  We have recently updated the lobby and the public areas, but the apartment interiors need to be updated. The funds we raise will be used to update and refurbish our apartments, in order to make our guests' stays more comfortable and restorative. 

 

 BABY BUNDLES Working with the Northern Santa Clara County Health Department, Assistance League of Los Altos provides help to vulnerable families with newborns by providing small portable cribs (Finnish baby boxes), clothing, disposable diapers and wipes.  We also provide blankets, hats and sweaters made by our members and strollers and playpens when needed. Funds we raise will be used to increase the number of families we can help, and allow us to provide basic necessities like diapers and wipes on an on-going basis to the families we serve.
