At LUCE INC (Latinos Unidos en el Camino a la Excelencia), we are deeply committed to empowering Louisville's Hispanic immigrant community through holistic services that address educational and workforce development needs. Our mission is to dismantle immigrant families' barriers by offering mentorship, leadership development, and life skills training. Through initiatives like the "Correr la Voz" mentorship group at Southern High School and the Hispanic Student Union at Seneca High School, we provide students with the support they need to thrive academically and culturally in their new environments.
Beyond education, LUCE focuses on equipping adults with the tools necessary for success in the American workplace. Our vocational training programs in electrical and plumbing and our life skills workshops prepare individuals for meaningful employment, fostering long-term career growth and financial stability. We partner with local businesses and community organizations to ensure that our clients not only find jobs but also have the opportunity to build sustainable futures for their families.
At LUCE, we believe every individual deserves the chance to succeed, regardless of background or circumstances. Our work is rooted in the belief that we are building a stronger, more inclusive Louisville by empowering our community.
Meet L.A. and know her story of resilience, transformation, and the power of community!
When L.A. first arrived at her High School, she felt like a stranger in a new world. The challenges were overwhelming—navigating a different language, unfamiliar customs, and not seeing many faces that looked like hers. It wasn't just the academics; it was the isolation. Like many Latino students in a new school, L.A. struggled to find her place, feeling invisible and disconnected from those around her.
That all began to change when L.A. joined our "Correr la Voz" mentorship group. Suddenly, she was surrounded by students who understood her experience—fellow Latinos from different parts of Latin America who shared the same struggles and feelings. In this group, she found more than support; she found a community.
Within weeks, L.A. started to come out of her shell. The mentorship group helped her feel more visible; for the first time in a long time, she felt like someone truly cared. Her confidence grew, she became more engaged in her classes, and the stories of her peers inspired her. Through LUCE's partnership with JCPS EDP, A.L. could attend JCTC, opening doors to further opportunities.
But L.A.'s journey didn't end there. After graduating from Southern High School, she continued to volunteer with LUCE, driven by a desire to give back to the community that had helped her find her way. This continued involvement with LUCE after graduating showcases the program's lasting impact and the potential for students to give back. Today, L.A. is employed by LUCE, where she helps other students who, like her, search for a place to belong.
L.A.'s story is a powerful reminder of the impact that support and community can have on a young person's life. In her words, "In this group, I felt more visible and that someone cared." Your support is crucial in ensuring that more students like L.A. find their voice, their confidence, and their path to success. With your help, LUCE can continue to provide the mentorship and guidance that transforms lives and builds a stronger, more inclusive Louisville.
