HELP US TO CONTINUE OUR FREE HEART SCREENING PROGRAM & HELP US KEEP OUR YOUTH SAFE FROM SUDDEN CARDIAC DEATH!
WE NEED TO RAISE $25,000 TO $40,000 TO CONTINUE!
We are in need of having to purchase up to 2 cardiac ultrasound machines in order to continue our Heart Screening Program!
The loaned machines we were using were really old and are no longer sufficient (or usable) to properly screen for heart defects. Our next screening event will be in less than 6 months!
We also need to purchase CPR Dummies and A.E.D. Trainers as well as Certify up to 2 volunteers as American Red Cross CPR Instructors to keep providing low-cost (sometimes free) CPR/A.E.D. Certification to local Youth Coaches and Team Moms!
BONUS: If we can reach over $40,000 in our campaign we can purchase several A.E.D.'s to loan local youth leagues and implement our Pre/Post Concussion Program!
We are a 501c3 Tax-Exempt Organization!
Why Support This Campaign and Our Foundation?
One youth dies every 3 to 4 days from sudden cardiac arrest in the U.S.. A majority of those youth are in one way or another involved in some type of strenuous physical activity, such as sports, on a regular basis.
The average age when sudden cardiac death occurs in young athletes is 17.5 years. The risk of SCA is three times greater in competitive athletes.
Locally over the past several years there have several cases of local student-athletes suffering some form of SCA.
The most recently tragic case SCD (sudden cardiac death) occurred on the night of Monday April 18th, 2016 when 14 year-old Issaiah Abrego collapsed and died during halftime at a football game at Ed Fountain Park.
Nearly 4 years to the date before that, on April 12th, 2012, 8 year-old little league baseball player Spencer Melvin collapsed and died walking to the field at Rainbow Family Park for practice.
The causes of sudden cardiac arrest in children and adolescents are varied and often include undiagnosed heart conditions that result from abnormal heart structure or function, primarily electrical abnormalities or outside factors such as a sudden blow to the chest.
A majority of these conditions can be found (and therefore properly treated before incident) through a very simple, non-invasive, screening program that utilizes a 12-Lead EKG combined with a 2D Limited Echocardiogram for the best overall results.
Our screening program combined with the proper training of coaches in CPR with easy access to life-saving tools like A.E.D.'s, we can help to prevent tragedies like those previously mentioned!
Our Overall Mission:
1. Provide Free Extensive Pre-Participation Sports Physicals that include: Complete Child and Family Medical History; 12-Lead EKG; 2D Limited Echocardiogram; Pre- Concussion testing.
