Lydias House in Southeast

Lydia's House is a community based, HUD approved, full service housing counseling agency that has been in existence for 26 years. Our mission is to improve the quality of life for very low, low and moderate income households by supporting their goal of obtaining, maintaining and retaining their housing choice through education and promoting home-ownership as a tool for creating generational wealth.

Our current housing counseling activities include: conducting group sessions for first time home buyers and financial education classes, Home Purchase Assistance Program (HPAP) home-ownership classes for DC residents who have been approved to receive up to $84,000 in down payment & closing cost assistance, providing group & one-on-one housing and credit counseling for DC residents, providing underwriting for eligible residents to receive down payment assistance, assisting potential home buyers improve their credit scores to a minimum of 640 and build their personal savings account to at least $500.

Lydia's House is the only city funded and HUD approved housing counseling agency in the Bellevue neighborhood of Ward 8. Our most rewarding initiative has been providing rental and financial counseling services to homeless residents through partnerships with S.O.M.E., DC Access Housing, Chesapeake House & Community of Hope Rapid Rehousing.
