Master Gardeners of Greater New Orleans (MGGNO) serves Orleans and Jefferson Parishes as a volunteer outreach of the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service. Our certified Louisiana Master Gardeners share research-based gardening practices that protect the environment and promote sustainability.
In 2024, our 161 volunteer members donated 11,549 service hours, creating an economic impact of $316,349.
MGGNO supports community gardens that teach sustainable food production and share seasonal harvests with neighboring communities. We also maintain many demonstration gardens where visitors can learn how to grow plants suited for our climate such as Louisiana Super Plants, native species and pollinator plants. We also offer free educational programs through our Speakers Bureau, presenting to garden clubs, schools, libraries, and community groups across Greater New Orleans.
Together, we cultivate a greener, healthier and more knowledgeable community.
"We know that any educational program presented by a Master Gardener will be lively, informative, and very well attended. Thank you , MGGNO Speakers Bureau, for supporting our learning programs!' -Judy Welcker, Friends of Jefferson Public Library
"The Master Gardeners play a vital role in the success of the New Orleans Botanical Garden. They assist with the garden shows, do a tremendous job in growing and harvesting of vegetables in the cold frames, and help to maintain numerous gardens throughout the Botanical Garden." -Paul Soniat, Retired Director NOBG
"The Louisiana Jazz Museum and MGGNO have partnered for over seven years to create stunning native gardens." - Greg Lambousy, Director
