The Madison Area Community Land Trust (MACLT) is a community-driven non-profit that owns land on behalf of the Madison community.  We develop and steward affordable resource-efficient homes on the land, as well as preserve acreage for organic farming, community gardening, environmental education, and natural landscapes.

Since our founding in 1990, MACLT’s primary work has been providing homes that are affordable for current and future generations of low-income homebuyers.  We accomplish this long-term affordability using a unique model wherein our homeowners purchase the home only, while MACLT retains ownership of the land.  This model reduces the purchase price of a home by an average of about $50,000, putting homeownership within reach of those with limited income.  Our homeowners most of the benefits of homeownership, including building equity, collecting 25% of the appreciation when they sell, a stable place to live with autonomy over their home, and having the greater sense of rooted belonging that can come with homeownership.  At the start of 2020, there are 69 homes on MACLT land.

Please consider donating to MACLT today!  Your donation helps us continue to develop affordable homes, provide support for our current homeowners, and steward 38+ acres of land in the city of Madison—for the benefit of all!
